A reminder of homework for Year 5 pupils
In Year 5, the children will have a piece of Literacy and Numeracy work each week. This will either be a sheet for each subject or a piece of work which supplements the work they are learning in lessons which may be less structured.
The children will also be learning a spelling rule each week and this will be sent home in their spelling journals. They need to continue to investigate the spelling rule at home, adding new words into their journal and learning the rules so that they can then apply this to their writing. A further selection of words will be continued to be added to for the children to learn too. These are found in the back of their spelling journal books and may not follow the weekly spelling rule. These are the ‘key spelling words’ which all Year 5 pupils across the country need to learn by the end of the year.
Children should be aiming to read to an adult 5 times each week. This includes reading aloud to an adult as well as answering questions about their book and discussing and comparing the text to that of others which they have read. The children will need to write a short book review after every second book.
Throughout the year, the children will need to develop their recall of times tables. Without these, the children will find Mathematics to be more tricky. Weekly practice of these in the form of multiplication grids or online games will be useful to support with this.
